Alskens

Alskens is a piece written for and comissioned by Duo Bragi.

The duo asked me to compose a duet for their 10 year anniversary concert because they knew of my love for their instrument: the recorder.

The piece is written for alto and tenor recorder and is fully acoustic. The title means “all kinds”. I felt very inspired by the word when I read it on Duo Bragis homepage. The word reminds me of that the recorder is a versatile instruments that can do “all-kinds” of timbres, percussive sounds and other great extended techniques. The piece is about listening to each other and be attuned to yourself, the other musician and the world.

The piece is written with a deep listening inspired meditation called “Meditation to Alskens” to be done off stage by the performers.
